Lumen Christi Logo
The title and logo of our pastoral region, whilst all the time upholding the integrity of each parish, has a threefold purpose: to provide a precise geographic descriptor, to gather the three parishes under a spirituality and, to say something specifical about our Catholic Tradition. - Lumen Christi—the Light of Christ—is celebrated in each of our churches throughout the year. This is especially so at Christmas and at Easter. We celebrate it at every Baptism and we pray it at every prayer for the deceased.
-
The logo captures the geographic location: Catholic Parishes, Wollongong. The waves at the base of the logo depict the escarpment (green) and the ocean (blue) which are characteristic of the Illawarra.
- The Cross domiates the logo: it is the sign of our salvation.
-
The Paschal Candle—the candle of Baptism—is inscribed with the Alpha and Omega: Christ is the beginning and the end; Christ is for all times. The Light of Christ—Lumen Christi—is the great antiphon sung at the Easter Vigil to which the assembly gives enthusiastic assent. This light is then entrusted to all the baptised “to be kept burning brightly”.
As members of the Catholic Parishes of Wollongong we were entrusted with the Light of Christ at Baptism. We now walk as children of the Light. We are a vibrant community shining with the Light of Christ!
